Junior 2D Game Artist (Animation & VFX)
F9Play is an indie game studio focused on creating fun, creative, and distinctive mobile games.
We are looking for a Junior 2D Game Artist (Animation & VFX) with a strong visual sense, a passion for games, and a particular interest in 2D Animation & Visual Effects to help us bring F9Play's games and experiences to life.
This is a 100% remote position. Since our team works fully remotely, we value not only artistic skills but also strong communication, proactiveness, and ownership.
๐จ WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design 2D game assets, including UI, icons, buttons, popups, banners, backgrounds, and other in-game visual elements.
- Design and refine UI/UX visuals for mobile games based on existing gameplay and concepts.
- Create 2D animations for characters, UI, and game elements.
- Create Visual Effects (VFX) such as glows, particles, explosions, win effects, reward effects, transitions, and other effects that make gameplay feel more engaging.
- Create animations for in-game interactions such as buttons, popups, rewards, level completion, victory/defeat screens, and gameplay events.
- Prepare and optimize assets for direct integration by developers.
- Work closely with developers to review and refine animations, effects, and UI after implementation.
- Proactively communicate ideas, requirements, progress, and any issues that arise during production.
- Contribute to the visual style, character style, and overall visual identity of F9Play games.
- Help create assets for App Store / Google Play / marketing, including screenshots, banners, promotional graphics, and short videos.
- Use AI creative tools where appropriate to support concept development, asset creation, animation, and video production.
โจ WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A solid foundation in Graphic Design / Digital Art / Game Art.
- Good understanding of 2D design, composition, color, and typography.
- Experience with some design and motion tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Figma, After Effects, or equivalent tools.
- Ability to create 2D Animation / Motion Graphics.
- Basic understanding of animation principles such as timing, easing, anticipation, squash & stretch, impact, and transitions.
- Ability to create or edit game VFX.
- Understanding of how to prepare assets such as transparent PNGs, sprite sheets, frame sequences, and other formats suitable for game development.
- A good visual sense for mobile games, particularly the ability to make UI, animation, and visual feedback clear and effective on small screens.
- Comfortable receiving feedback and iterating on designs throughout the development process.
- Most importantly: you enjoy playing games and are excited about creating them.
We don't require years of professional experience. F9Play values your portfolio, practical skills, mindset, and ability to learn more than formal qualifications.
๐ฌ COMMUNICATION & REMOTE WORK
This is a 100% remote position, which makes strong communication an essential part of the role.
- Proactively communicate progress instead of waiting to be asked for updates.
- Clarify tasks and ask questions when requirements are unclear rather than making assumptions.
- Communicate blockers, difficulties, or potential delays early so the team can work through them together.
- Receive feedback positively, discuss different viewpoints openly, and focus on achieving the best result for the product.
- Clearly and concisely explain the thinking behind design decisions.
- Collaborate effectively with developers and other team members in a fully remote environment.
- Organize their own work, manage time effectively, and meet agreed deadlines.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and follow through until they are genuinely complete.
- Maintain reliable communication and availability during the working hours agreed upon with the team.
Remote at F9Play doesn't mean working alone. We want to build a small team that communicates openly, stays connected, and supports each other throughout the development process.
โญ NICE TO HAVE
- Have previously worked on a mobile game or indie game.
- Have a portfolio featuring game UI, animation, or VFX.
- Have experience with Spine 2D.
- Have experience creating sprite or frame-by-frame animation.
- Have experience with Construct 3, Unity, or a similar game engine.
- Understand how particle systems and shaders work in games.
- Can edit videos or create short promotional videos.
- Have experience using AI creative tools for images, video, or animation.
- Can draw or modify characters.
- Regularly play games and pay attention to how mobile games handle UI, animation, feedback, and reward effects.
๐ WHAT THE WORK MAY LOOK LIKE
Design a reward popup โ animate its appearance โ add a flying coin effect โ export the sprites/assets โ work with a developer to integrate them โ see everything running in the actual game โ refine the timing and effects until it feels just right.
Another day, you might:
Create a character animation โ design a win effect โ refine a game screen โ or create a short promotional animation for the App Store / Google Play.
Because F9Play is an indie game studio, the work is diverse. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to many parts of the game creation process rather than being limited to a single type of asset.
๐ค WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're not looking for a designer whose only goal is to โmake things look pretty.โ
โI made this โ and now it's actually moving inside the game.โ
- love games;
- enjoy experimenting with animation and effects;
- are curious about technology and AI;
- pay attention to small details in UI and animation;
- can work independently without working in isolation;
- communicate proactively and share problems with the team;
- are willing to learn things you don't know yet;
- care about the quality of what you create;
- and want to help build games from the ground up with a small indie studio.
๐ PORTFOLIO
Your portfolio doesn't need to contain dozens of projects. 3โ5 of your best projects are enough.
We would especially love to see: Game UI, 2D Game Art, Animation / Motion, VFX, Character Animation, and Mobile Game Design.
Personal projects, game prototypes, and experiments are very welcome. If you've built something yourself, we'd love to see it.
